Tanto bearers of Sakura Dojo

Tanto

The Tanto is presented as special honour and award to active Jiu Jitsuka as well as masters of other martial arts by Karlheinz ( Kalla ) Bergers, head and Sensei of Sakura Dojo.

There are no rules or requirements a Tanto bearer has to fulfil. Instead, the honorary gift of the Tanto expresses recognition for their personality, their activities on and beyond the mat, and their special relation to Sakura Dojo.

The Tanto as honorary gift of Sakura Dojo may seem a bit odd considering that Jiu Jitsu is the most effective weaponless martial art.

However, there is a long history in many cultures of presenting weapons as honorary gifts and the Tanto symbolises the Japanese roots of Jiu Jitsu. Furthermore, it is of high aesthetic value to a martial artist.

The Tanto binds its bearer to continue their way on and beyond the mat just like they have up to now.
